How to Protect your USB Flash Drives from Virus. (NTFS Drive Protection)

USB Flash Drives help us to transfer files from computers. It makes our work easier but If the USB flash drive is infected with virus, not only we may lose the data in the storage, we are also affecting the security of every computer once it’s plugged in. NTFS Drive Protection can help us to Protect our Removable Drives and even if our storage device has been plugged into an infected computer, the virus will be unable to create its “autorun.inf” on USB flash drive.

Enable protection:
Important ! To use the "NTFS Drive Protection" your Removable Drive's Files system must be formatted as NTFS.
  1. Run NTFS Drive Protection and select your drive (under the Target Drive)
  2. If you want to create a unprotected File, tick the "Create a Unprotected Folder" checkbox and write the Folder's name.
  3. Click the Start Protection Button and Wait for End. That's it!

After Start the protection, you can use the Removable Drive's files and folders but you can not change them or you can not create a new File or Folder. If you create a Unprotected folder you can easily add a file or folder in it, but a virus infection is also possible.

After The process is complete, the above message box will be displayed.

Stop protection:

Un-hide Files in Virus Infected Pen-drive Using Command Prompt.

When most of viruses effect on pen drives, it hides the files or folders that exist on pen drive. In this case you can't see your important files or folders on pen drive. To un-hide effected folders or files on pen drive, all you have to do is follow this simple steps.

STEP 1:
Plug your pen drive to USB port of your computer. Make sure it is detected.

STEP 2:
Start command prompt by Click Start>>Run or pressing windows key+R on keyboard and type cmd then hit enter.



STEP 3:
Find the drive letter for the connected USB drive. For example, G:
In command prompt, type G: and hit Enter.

STEP 4:
Then type
attrib -s -h /s /d *.*

and hit Enter.


Wait a moment and this should unhide all your files and folders on your pendrive.

Convert your Removable Drive's File System to NTFS

To use the "NTFS Drive Protection" your Removable Drive's Files system must be formatted as NTFS. If your Removable Drive's File system is not NTFS, You can easily Convert it but first of all please backup all your Removable drives's data.
Click the "Other options" button (at the end of the right upper side) and select "Format Drive" Option.



Under the File system, select NTFS and click the Start button.


Note: If you use Windows XP, you can't see the NTFS Option. please unplug your Removable drive and Plug it again. Format will delete all your data in Removable drive.
